Extract from letter to all staff by Dave Kennedy, Interim Chief Executive, Bradford Council
"I am absolutely delighted to announce that the Council has been awarded 19th place in the Sunday Times Top 20 Best Big Companies to Work For 2006 List.
This is a tremendous achievement as we are the only Local Authority to appear in the list. A total of 59 organisations entered the competition, and other winners include KPMG, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Cadbury. Our success is the result of the hard work, dedication and commitment of all our employees.
It has long been a personal ambition of mine to make the Council a 'great place to work' so I am thrilled that together we have achieved this magnificent accolade.
The Sunday Times assessment included an anonymous random survey of 1,000 employees, which contributes to 70% of the overall score so it is these staff who said the Council is a Great Place to Work.
This award is a tribute to all our staff, those on the front line, our supervisors and managers, because it is all of us who contribute to making the Council a Great Place to Work.
However, whilst this is a fantastic achievement and one of which we can all be proud I would like to reassure you that it is not going to make me complacent! There is still a lot to do to further embed our Vision and Values and to put our customers at the heart of our business, though I am confident that together we can do this and make the Council an even better place to work as well as improving the services we deliver to our customers."
